Norfolk
is an independent city in the Commonwealth of Virginia, and is the core of the Hampton Roads metropolitan area. The city has a population of approximately 247,189 people, making it the second-most populous city in Virginia. The city has a long history as a strategic military and transportation point and is home to the largest Navy base in the world, Naval Station Norfolk.

Fire - EMS Stations in the City of Norfolk

Norfolk Fire-Rescue - is comprised of over 500 dedicated professionals who protect a 66 square mile urban city with a population of approximately 250,000, which swells to over 350,000 during the workday. The NFR responds to an average of 39,000 emergency incidents each year from 14 fire-rescue stations strategically located throughout the city. The NFR also provides a host of community and support services from its Offices of Administrative Services, Public Affairs, Fire Marshal, Occupational Safety and Health, Training, and Special Operations.
Fire suppression is accomplished with 15 engine companies, 7 ladder companies, and 2 rescue companies divided into 3 battalions. Each engine company is staffed with a Captain, Operator, and 2 Firefighters. Each ladder company is staffed with a Lieutenant, Operator, and Firefighter/Tillerman. The two rescue companies are staffed with a Lieutenant, Operator, and 2 Firefighter/Medics. All rescue personnel are trained in Heavy and Tactical Rescue as well as being Hazardous Materials Technicians.
ALL FIRE APPARATUS in the City of Norfolk are ALS.
Norfolk Fire-Rescue is responsible for providing all emergency medical services within the city of Norfolk. This is accomplished with a vehicle ambulance fleet, state-of-the-art equipment, and highly trained personnel. Currently there are 12 medic apparatus designed specifically for advanced life support. Medic Units in the City of Norfolk are staffed by (1) EMT-E and (1) EMT-I or P.
